Gone Girl

Its official. Ben Affleck is the Ravi Shastri of Hollywood - overachieving and overrated at the same time. Credit where its due and all, but who gives a fuck. David Fincher digs deep, as always, to tell us the best-selling, diabolical story of Nick & Amy in a super smooth and engaging manner.

Argo

Most people know the outcome of this political thriller that is set during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. Maybe that was the reason the film fails to draw the viewer in, in spite of a good cast and fine script. Ben Affleck who in my book is a slightly underrated director continues to be crisp, but his choice of topic proves to be undoing. As Tony Mendez goes through the complicated setup to get the US diplomats out of Iran, you strain to get excited and become part of this caper only to be left only with the pain of straining.

Gone Baby Gone

When Meara suggested that I should watch this film, I was leery thanks to it being directed by one Mr. Affleck. But after this film I am convinced that he should spend more time behind the lens instead of in front of it.

A young girl goes missing in the tough Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and a couple of private detectives are asked to assist with the case. Patrick (Casey Affleck) and Angie (Michelle Monaghan), colleagues and lovers, soon find themselves reluctantly immersed in what initially looks like a simple abduction. As they meander through the investigation, they find themselves conflicted personally and professionally and nothing is as it seems...

Man about town

While his oscar-winning buddy's career has only been going up, Ben Affleck has increasingly been staring at mediocrity. Like this one for instance - plays a once successful agent for hollywood writers struggles to cope with his cheating wife and problems at his company. It doesnt help that the story line is utter crap, but his performance is even horrible & appears completely disinterested with himself. Ben Affleck's number should be retired at the Hollywood Hall of Waste.
