Eight Mile High

A slickly made pointless film about the tumultuous life of super model Uschi Obermaier (Natalia Avelon) whose life was made interesting by the men (Keith Richards, Mic Jagger) she slept with.

I'm Not There

The many phases of a certain folk singer born, Robert Allen Zimmerman, are splashed across the scene with each showing a different side of the mercurial singer and poet. Some a direct slice out of his life while others are glimpses of his alter-egos. The fact that these glimpses and slices are brought to life by Christian Bale, Richard Gere and Heath Ledger just makes it extra special. To top it all Cate Blanchett comes on and adds something bloody magical to the proceedings. The film rambles on with a kind of meandering narrative that fits like a glove for a Dylan biography. Never has his life been presented so craftily on any medium. A must watch for all Dylan fans.

La Vie En Rose

The life of Edith Piaf is splashed across the screen. And what a brilliant splash it is. Marion Cotillard plays her with a conviction that leads you to truly believe that that the Little Sparrow has come back to life on celluloid. Director Olivier Dahan has also deftly spliced the time lines in a non-linear fashion, albeit being predictable these days, serves the purpose of the story. All in all the film reflects the tragedy of Piaf's life but with a surprisingly gentle tone.
